Artist Sami Makela was born in 1972, in Helsinki, Finland.  As a
son of a well-known war illustrator, Reijo Makela, Sami grew up
traveling around Europe learning and appreciating all styles of art.

After finishing art school in Finland and searching for inspiration
in Paris, France, Sami was invited to the United States to do
classic art and restoration. At the age of 20, he had already
established himself as a well-known mural artist in Finland
working mainly with commercial clients including the City of
Helsinki and several hotel and restaurant chains. One of his works
from this period is still exhibited in the Helsinki City Museum.
However, despite of his success as an artist in Finland, Sami had
always wanted to expand his artistic repertoire. Therefore, he
followed his heart to America in hopes to steer his career to a
more classical direction and settled to Palm Beach County, Florida.

Sami continued to work in commercial art in South Florida for a
couple of years. He was the head designer for the largest privately
owned Elvis Presley museum and did several mural projects.
However, his interest was in more traditional art, and he wanted to
leave his mark in the beautiful architecture of Palm Beach.

After having the rare opportunity to work with a true
old-world-style master, late Ricardo Guerrero as his apprentice for
a few years, Sami renewed his love affair with European style
decorative art and started his own company in 2001 continuing the
tradition of Ricardo's Art Studio.

Today, Sami Makela offers a wide variety of art services including
faux finishing, Trompe L'oeil, fine art, old world finishes, furniture
finishes, restoration, murals, airbrushing, gold leafing, and
portraits to commercial and private clients. Sami also offers a wide
range of art consultation services including historical and periodic
consultation. He has attended several private art finishing schools,
and continues to educate himself in the field of art history. In
addition to working directly with clients, Sami also collaborates as
an artist and a designer with a set designing company, Multi Image
Group, located in Boca Raton, Florida.

In addition to decorative art, Sami Makela expresses his talent with
a wide variety of paintings ranging from realism to abstract. He
has been interviewed by several local newspapers and appeared
on television as well. On his free time, he likes to attend concerts
and art exhibitions, watch movies, and play golf. He lives in Delray
Beach with the love of his life and three dogs, Elvis, Lucy in the
Sky, and Jim Morrison.
Sami Makela (born 1972) has a fine art
background ranging from abstract art to
realism. His meticulous eye for details is
reflected in all of his work. He is
continuously working on his talent and
keeping up with trends by participating in
different private finishing schools.
Sami is a member of Historical Society of
Palm Beach County as well as
Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach.
